Overview

The Pirates signed Gallo as a free agent shortly after the 2023 draft. He pitched for two years, mostly as a starter, at Florida Gulf Coast. His second year was a rough one, as he posted a 7.63 ERA and got hit hard. After that, Gallo spent two years at Miami, the first as a reliever and the second as a swing man. He had a 3.47 ERA as a junior and 7.45 as a senior with a 1.73 WHIP, so you have to think relief might be his best role. He had a 10.4 K/9 as a junior and 9.8 as a senior, and walked a little over four per nine innings both years. What likely attracted the Pirates’ attention was 1.17 WHIP and 13.2 K/9 as a starter in summer ball in 2022. Gallo’s fastball can reach 94 mph. He adds a slider and his best pitch is a change.

2023-24

The Pirates placed Gallo on the seven-day injured list after he signed and he didn’t pitch in 2023. Then in March 2024, they placed him on the full-season injured list, so he won’t play before 2025.
