Overview
Escudero signed with the Brewers, but he never played in their system as the Pirates picked him up in a minor deal. He doesn’t seem to have been a prominent signing.
2021-23
Following the trade, Escudero played in the DSL for the Pirates in 2021. He hit very little, although he at least made contact consistently. He threw out 24% of base stealers. In 2022, he went back to the DSL and hit much better, except with little power. He had two more walks than strikeouts and finished with a 284/419/351 line. He threw out 50% of base stealers.
In 2023, the Pirates sent Escudero back to the DSL for a third season. This time he mostly played first, which may have had something to do with the other catchers on the team. He hit nearly the same as the previous year, except with fewer walks and more power. In 2024, he returned to the DSL again and hit very well, batting 311/410/479 with a low K rate. Considering that it was his fourth season, the stats probably don’t mean much. Escudero split his time between first and catching. He threw out 37% of base stealers.
