I've seen a few games in Indy where they had robo-umps call the game. You didn't notice a delay. I thought the games smooth. Then watched games with the challenge system, which I found were disruptive to the flow and annoying. Other reasons I prefer the robo-umps.
1) As long as umps are calling balls and strikes, catchers will get right up to the hitter. I believe there were a record number of catchers getting hit in the hand and head last year. Robo-umps would let catchers move back where it is safer.
2) Hitters, pitchers and catchers should be concentrating on the game. They should not have the responsibility to also make sure the ump is doing his job.
3) If they already have access to the correct answer (ball or strike), why play this guessing game on whether the ump was right about the call.
4) Give the ump a break. Pitchers are throwing near 100 miles per hour with movement. It is more difficult than ever now.
5) Also, umps have extra responsibility with the pitch clock. Maybe now they will do a better job at check swings, balks, etc.
.... man I thought I had a few more, but forgot. :)
If robo umps end the debate, then I'm OK with that. I just don't want replays or challenges though. Keep in mind that the little box that they draw on the TV is subjective too, at least for the lower and upper boundaries of the strike zone: less so than a human ump, but still an "estimation."
-I get it and it wasn't too long ago, I was saying the same thing you are.
-Like I'm pretty sure the robo is not 100% accurate, but probably consistent enough where the hitters aren't guessing how the ump is calling the game.
-Lastly, it drives me crazy they are calling it a challenge and review system to something they already have the correct answer to.... before the challenge.
All great points but #3 is what makes it a no brainer to me at this point. I do think Umpires are as good as they have ever been... just watch the Eric Williams (Livan on the hill) game Marlins vs. Braves in the playoffs if you want to see a farce. Every pitch we as fans see if the umpire missed it... just use the technology already.
I wonder if he has an opt-out, because with three lefty relievers on the 40 man roster, a lot would have to happen to make the team for Borucki now I feel like
Looking forward to seeing he and TJ together as the MI to start at AA. He lost a lot of time last year with injuries, and that was part of the reason TJ played SS 36 games at GBO. For the season though, Brannigan hit for an .834 OPS with 15 doubles and 18 HR in only 77 games.
Kervin Pichardo is a year younger than Brannigan, and had a decent year at AA, but the almost 5 K/1 BB rate is hard to accept. TJ had 105 K/78 BB for a 1.35 K/BB rate. Brannigan had 89 K/40 BB for a 2.23/1 K/BB Rate. Almost nothing good happens when hitters strike out 4 or 5 times more than they work walks.
The Cubs waived Canario 3 days ago for some bizarre reason. The Pirates could have him... but then they would have to make room in that OF overcrowded with all the amazing talent that they acquired in free agency.
This is exactly the point that I have been making. The Pirates would have been better off picking up guys on waivers than signing these bums. Now... they won't even make a waiver claim on a guy who is better than every OFer on the 40 except Cruz and Reynolds.
I mentioned that the day the Cubs DFA'd him and was hoping the Pirates would claim him. I doubt they would have left him leave, but I would have forced their hand.
Wasn't a strike but I LOVED that placement of that 1-1 slider by Bubba to that first batter. Perfect place to put it. Close enough to entice a chase but not in the zone

Compelling points. Anybody but Rob Manfred could see that.
Indianapolis is going to be a powerhouse this year.
Well, I've seen some of the comments below on Griffin. Omg if he hits the ball!
As Shelton would say, he looks hitterish.
He stayed and signed autographs for 25 minutes after the game until everyone got one that asked.
Even though it was a chopper, Griffin's hit came off the bat at 99.7mph.
It looke like he was trying to hit it to right, which he did. Textbook.
Man, Gorski and Griffin were just standing near each other and I know how much a tank Gorski is up close. For Griffin to be close is crazy
6'4 and strong. As strong as he hits it, running might be his biggest strength of all.
Looking at his build that's crazy to think
Borucki trying to beat out Ferguson and Mayza. Not great command today.
I wonder if he has an opt-out, because with three lefty relievers on the 40 man roster, a lot would have to happen to make the team for Borucki now I feel like
Griffin is a fucking unit. Kid looks huge for an 18 year old.
That fact he is 18 and that size while being able to run like that seems like a cheat code. That's just unfair
He also can dial it up to high gear in a heartbeat.
Yea when he flips that switch, he's gone. I remember watching one of the bridge league games and him going first to third. It was insane
I remember seeing Cutch when he first came up running like that. It was awe inspiring.
Go to Pirate City and watch by the fence until he happens to come near. It’s an eye-opener.
Brannigan has popeye forearms. Maybe that power will come with some more spinach

Santana sure didn't screw around. 7 P, 7 S.
Griffin in CF.
Gorski in LF!
Since we can’t get a legit ML OF, I’d far rather have a real competition among Gorski, Stewart, etc., than block it up with Pham and Frazier.

Josh Palacios must remain on the roster at all costs.

Control still needs a bit of work but the stuff is legit
Key comes a long way from SS to catch pop up in front if the mound. Moving good.
That 96 down the pipe is still unhittable

Bubba on the bump
Bubba time!!
Bubba Chandler time
No wind-up. Is that his norm?
Naw, that's different. Could be working on something but that'll be something to watch
