Pirates will go as far as the pitching takes them...

Expand full comment

Who is this team that raps 11 balls in play 100 mph or higher?

Expand full comment

I dunno . . . Cruz never got above 111. He may be losing it.

Anderson

Bednar*

Chapman

Holderman

Mlod

Burocki (sp)

Honeywell

Flemmings

Contreras

Ortiz to Indy, Falter to wire even if Bednar starts in the IL. Hope that they keep McKenney and Lamb. Palacios has an option if I’m right.

Not sure I understand the fascination with Anderson. He has a track record and it's not good. Bednar will be fine. He'll start appearing in games by the end of the week. Substitute Jones for Anderson. It's about time management did something unusual like that. If he sinks instead of swims, there are other options. Although I wish a stronger starter was signed, I'm beginning to wonder if "see who sticks" might actually work a little bit.

After Keller and Perez I don’t see any of the current options as lasting more than a couple of months, but I think they should ride whoever is/are the hottest hand into those months and try to squeeze as many wins as they can. Anderson is not a fascination at all, could be released today and I wouldn’t bat an eye. But he made a change up breaking ball heavy adjustment last year and I think that it might work for a short time (think RH Rich Hill)until the league adjust and or the Calvary (German, Lauer, Jones, Skenes, Brubaker) arrives and displace whoever needs displacing.

Williams instead of Peguero...

But would still like to see Lamb and Delay on team...

Expand full comment

Not sure I would want to have Williams instead of a guy with legit 20/20 potential.

Expand full comment

have to get enough at bats to go 20/20

Expand full comment

Thus the part of the comment, " guy with legit 20/20 potential"

Davis catching all 9 innings…..🤔

Expand full comment

Just as he will about 100-120 times this year.

Expand full comment

Yes Scott, but let’s not forget how often he’s been injured and in a blowout with A+ pitchers on the mound is worth questioning, at least for me.

Expand full comment

I might be wrong, but I thought Henry's injuries came from getting hit by pitches.

Expand full comment

Yes, mostly, soft tissue stuff as well. Last year wrists injury I’m not sure how it happened. The point is that he’s susceptible to injuries and catching is a position that is susceptible to injuries so why chance it when we can’t afford to lose him. I see value in him catching a whole game during ST, if it is a week from now and he’s catching Chapman and Holderman, etc.

"quality" strikes

That slider was filth that inning

Expand full comment

A lot of good pitches, A lot of base runners. Seems to be Ro's M.O.

Expand full comment

MP pitching extremely well this ST. Today was vs Phillies A-Team

Expand full comment

Grandal is catching in an intrasquad game, so I expect Davis’ ticket to Indy has been issued.

Expand full comment

Actually really like how Davis looks at C. Just needs to work on throwing to the right side of the bag.

Expand full comment

Give him a 1B mitt

Expand full comment

Give him a ticket to ride.

Expand full comment

He was a day tripper.

12 hits thru 3 innings, with 2 3-run dingers? Teeing off on minor league pitchers, but still....

Expand full comment

I know its a dream, but imagine we swoop in for snell 2/60 with a one year opt out

Expand full comment

You weren't far off. Just had the wrong team spending the $$$.

Cruz with a 111 off the bat and ke with two hits, these boys are ready for regular season ball

Expand full comment

Even Rowdy starting to 'weigh' in. A no-doubter.

Expand full comment

I’m still wondering if the ball came down 😂

Expand full comment

Haha, well done!

Expand full comment

That Triolo kid looks pretty sharp at 2B.

Expand full comment

Only listening to the broadcast. I heard he made a great play. Then the next ball was hit to Triolo again and they said Tellez couldn't handle the throw. I am hearing "Tellez can't handle the throw" way too often.

Expand full comment

Triolo had plenty of time and made a lazy throw to first, short hopping it. But to your point, Santana would’ve made that play, Lamb would’ve made that play.

Expand full comment

Yet another poor play by Tellez not going to the bag costing the Pirates an out and the pitcher a hit. This guy’s a veteran first baseman and should know better.

Expand full comment

Any decent major league first baseman would be able to make that play but unless they keep Lamb they don’t have one because Joe’s way worse than Tellez. The only guy they have who could excel at first is Triolo and it’s pretty hard to play both second and first at the same time. It will cost them games during the season.

Expand full comment

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. The 1B handles the ball more than everyone but the P and the C. 1B defense is badly underrated, and there is no metric for "scooping" or stretching off the bag, so defensive statistics for 1B are not very helpful, even the new-fangled ones.

Expand full comment

He did.

Hope KH can keep smoking the ball when the boys head North, and hope BR starts hitting.

The fort said on NS9 that perez is always a spring training star, I dunno if thats true or not but I was hoping we had another arm to lean on

Expand full comment

I feel bullish on Perez, not saying he’s gonna be an All Star, but a solid starter that’s gonna help more than hurt the team. Jack has, an easy 2+WAR season if he stays in LF.

Expand full comment

Both of those would be very valuable stabilizing presences for the roster

Expand full comment

Gonna be doing a lot of leaning
