I think Delay is overlooked as a catcher that "knows how to play the game" because he doesn't have the MLB experience or talent as many. I also think that teams sometimes overrate the value of bringing in a veteran.
The big thing that hurts Delay is that the team has options on him still. If Hank looks anything like playable at catcher, the logical roster construction will be to have Hank and Grandal in MLB and send Delay to AAA. I mean, it's only a matter of time given Hank and Grandal's injury histories before Delay is back in the bigs.
Given they've consecutively signed Perez, Hedges, and Grandal, it's also safe to say the FO likes having a Proven Veteran™.
His zone rate on fastballs over 96 has to be atrocious. I've never seen the data but have long questioned the utility of his premium stuff when watching him in-game. Seems he often has to dial it down to gain viable big league command.
He's young. What he does have is a fastball with good movement. I'd rather start with that and have to tame it than attempt to get someone with a lifeless fastball to get things cooking.
Pirates signed IF Dustin Peterson to MiL deal. No indication yet whether he’s a lock for the rotation.
Dustin Pedroia? Man, that's a stretch even for Ben.
Yeah, he's more into guys who were never that good in the first place.
Was there a radio broadcast today? I couldn't find it on any of my MLB apps.
Termarr draws a walk against another big league pitcher
And a loud double off another big league pitcher. This is fun to listen to.
Ahh wrong Reyes. Still a loud hit lol.
He should be opening day starting 2B. Win us World Series, along with a PPI pick from winning ROY
All soft stuff to Termarr, doesn't take long for MLB book is out on him!
They’re going to need a second edition that notes he won’t swing unless you throw strikes.
Another of Ben’s pickups throwing BP. These ultra-hittable lefties are gonna get tiresome fast.
Geesh using up our put-outs at home plate......rarely see them during regular season.
Incredible play by Delay. Short hopped throw to his right and made swipe tag to his left in one motion.

Delay was the primary catcher when Keller started turning things around in 2022. I keep wondering why that doesn't count.

He is the Rodney Dangerfield of Pirates catchers.
There's a competition for backup C, remember?
And there's the Achilles heel of Chapman. Lot's of big flies.
Mostly throwing sliders.
Gonna have some teeth-grinding moments, but he looks like he’s supposed to look.
Three true outcomes inning.
TTO pitcher.
Shelton should just run Chapman out to the mound without 7 guys behind him! That would be hilarious actually.
Even at 99, middle middle isnt a great place to be
Bligh takes Chapman 99 deep lol
Astros legend bligh madris
Was Jones pulled do to pitch count?
99% sure it was because of pitch count. No sign of injury or even a concern of an injury.
Thanks
Good shit for jones, would like a few less pitches but thats alright
If he’d get ahead in the count more, he’d be hellacious. Pitching 2-1 too much.

In the immortal words of Nathan Van Cleef— “How the hell did that happen?”
Joe barely goes boom, but both homers off of a real major league reliever
Cheng played for Columbia in WBC according to Block.....who would have thunk that?
Edit: it was the Caribbean Series not WBC. I don't know if Block mis-spoke or I mis-heard.
Couldn't tell, his voice sends me into a stupor, which makes driving interesting!
Of course we don't get to see Cheng mash it
It was a no-doubter off the bat

If he loads up like that regularly, Cheng will surprise a few people.
Is Cheng supposed to do that?
Halfway up the batters eye.
102 off the bat so mustve just gotten that perfect launch angle
Get windy down there this time of year. I'm guessing wind is blowing out?
Out to left. Helped Joe, not Cheng.
Got a lesson from Termarr.
