Sounds like the bank is going to be closed this season. Shelton saying elbow. Really wish Nicolas or Selby would step up, but I’m guessing Honeywell gets the spot.
I'm still trying to process that the Pirates have real organizational depth at catcher. Except for a small gap between Gutierrez and the guys moving up to low-A for 2024, the team is legitimately deep for years to come. I can't recall the last time the Pirates weren't scrambling for catchers but it seems like they'll be set from 2025 onward.
I mention this because Gutierrez looked good at the plate again.
Just saw this- doesn’t sound good. Why does he throw 25 pitches if his velo is down?
“ Dauri Moreta left a Grapefruit League appearance on Sunday with a trainer.
Moreta’s fastball velocity was down significantly before a visit from the Pirates’ training staff prompted his removal from the contest. The 27-year-old righty made a career-high 55 relief appearances last year for Pittsburgh. He’ll presumably head for some additional testing to determine the severity of the issue.”
I caught the last inning on game day and saw Moreta was struggling through walking 3 guys and then saw there was an injury timeout? Hoping Moreta is ok-anyone watching?
He's a three-pitch lefty. When he has them, he is almost unhittable. Unfortunately, if any one of the three is misfiring on any given day, he gets shelled. There is no plan B with Perez. When he has it, he has it. When he doesn't, he doesn't. So I would expect some superb outings from him and some trainwrecks. Hopefully more of the former.
With Olivares in center, Joe in right and Tellez at first, it might wind up be an interesting day of watching guys chasing after balls rolling loose on the field. Hey, it’s just spring training so no matter, but don’t try this idiocy during the season.
He's testing me. I wrote a while back on this forum that if Shelton started Olivares in CF, I might walk to Pittsburgh (from South America), go to game, and spend the whole 9+ innings yelling at Shelton.
I remember Steve Blass having to walk to Philadelphia on a bet like that. Watch out for a big water hazard in Panama and cross over the border in New Mexico.
They have little homemade ferries over the canal. Friend of mine road his motorcycle from southern coast of South America (in the Anarctic circle), Tierra del Fuego, through Canada. He said you can get across the canal for about $35 in a homemade boat that some locals have made.

Hendrie looks pretty good defensively, don't know if the bat will ever play. He'll probably be in Greensboro again.
No such thing as too much catching depth.

Hate to kick a man when he's down, but Moreta was already regressing far before this.
Shelton still doesn't know what the three batter rule means or the two straight walks made him forget the Orioles lead off hitter made an out.
He was 94-95 to start the inning
Moreta looking very disappointing so far.

Fastball velo was way down. Definitely looked off as trainer came to mound. Last fastball was 89, apparently
Bowen looks like he could be a guy. Perez was impressive today too.
Westburg nice play at SS. Question is can Cruz make that play.
Read the Athletic article (not sure how without a subscription). Not a good look on Nutting or BC.
In particular, firing Nunnally for being Hayes hitting coach is typical corporate pettiness. Thought BC would be above that, but he's not.
gurl that was so two weeks ago.
Pirates to the MOON.
Martin Perez for the Cy Young. Best Pirates pitcher since Wilbur Cooper!
3-pitch K of Holiday. Skenes couldn't get a whiff. Just sayin'. ;)
That is such a good sign. Hopefully he can be this year‘s Velasquez minus the injured part.

7 more mph on the fastball would go a long way, wouldn't it.
He would cost a lot more than 8 million if he was putting a hundo on the radar gun.
Cruz missile incoming today, you heard it here first
Triolo at short today!
And Edward Olivares, with a composite -13 fielding run value since 2020, in center. Not a useful experiment.

That is either planning for the apocalypse or Shelton lost a bet with somebody.

I'll pay for the airbnb!
Well... it would be an adventure. I'm not so sure about Columbia, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Otherwise would probably be a nice walk.
You'll have plenty of company!
ba dum chink

Mitchell that was Jim Rooker.

Why not both?
Finally!
Let's slot the basketball player into DH, and keep him off the field
