A pitcher and third baseman in high school, Penn was the Kentucky Player of the Year for 2023-24. On the mound, he had an 0.43 ERA and struck 81 in 49 innings. He throws about 89 mph and has a commitment to Western Kentucky. Penn was the Pirates’ only prep pick after the fourth round. With prep players drafted in late rounds, there’s always going to be some doubt about signability.
