Dumitru went to a junior college for two years and then played one season for New Mexico State. He batted 337/435/624 there, with 12 home runs, a good walk rate and a decent strikeout rate. Atlanta drafted him in the 16th round. So far he’s primarily played left field as a pro. The Pirates acquired him for Hunter Stratton at the beginning of July 2025.

2024-25

The Braves sent Dumitru directly to low A after he signed and he batted 217/324/337. His walk rate was solid and he struck out in about a quarter of his plate appearances. In 2025, he went to high A and, through mid-season, hadn’t hit much, with a .628 OPS. His strikeout rate remained about the same. The Pirates traded for him after designating Stratton for assignment.
