Sanford is a defense-oriented shortstop who figures to stay at the position. He has good athleticism and range, and an average-or-above arm, making him one of the top available defensive players at the position. His bat is more of a question. He makes good contact, but is a gap-to-gap hitter who may not show much power. Sanford’s speed is above average. His father, Chance, was drafted by and played briefly for the Pirates.
