Overview

Osoria was one of the Pirates’ top signings in the 2019-20 signing period.  He offered good mechanics and a fastball that could reach 91 mph.  He also threw a curve and change, with the former being the more advanced pitch. Between the pandemic and injuries, he hadn’t pitched a huge amount through his first five years after signing.

2020-22

After missing 2020, Osoria made ten starts in the DSL in 2021.  Opponents batted only .227 against him, but he had control problems, walking 5.8 per nine innings. In 2022, he went on the injured list after four starts. He returned just to appear twice in relief in mid-August.  His problem with walks got worse, but he struck out hitters at a prodigious rate. His BB/9 was 8.5, his K/9 15.6.

2023-24

The Pirates sent Osoria back to the DSL again in 2023. He still got in only 25.1 IP, but he dominated, allowing just 11 hits and nine walks. He fanned 32. He threw only one inning in the season’s final month. In 2024, he didn’t pitch at all, although he never went on the injured list. He appears to be out of baseball and working in an unrelated job, but MiLB.com still lists him as active.
