Overview
De Los Santos was the Pirates’ top signing in the 2021-22 international signing period. He has a good enough arm and athleticism that he may be able to stick at shortstop. His speed is a little above average. De Los Santos has the strength to develop power and could profile as a middle-of-the-order hitter.
2022-24
In his debut in the Dominican Summer League, De Los Santos made a good showing despite being just 17 all season. He hit a lot of doubles and had a very high walk rate, although a moderately high strikeout rate went with it, and his exit velocities drew raves from scouts. He played mostly at short, with a few games at third, and committed only ten errors at the former spot, a low total given the level and his age.
In 2023, De Los Santos put up an .860 OSP in 17 games in the FCL and the Pirates promoted him to Bradenton. The Florida State League was a different story, as he managed just a .578 OPS and fanned in half his ABs. He finished the season on the development list. The following year he had something of a repeat. The Pirates sent him initially to the FCL and he had a big season, hitting 344/407/505 with a reasonable 18% K rate. He went back to Bradenton for about the final month of the season and in 25 games hit just 195/300/264, nearly identical to 2023. One positive sign from his second try at full season ball was a much better K rate of 22%. Between the two levels, De Los Santos stole 34 bases and was caught only six times. For Bradenton he was 10-for-10. Overall, he spent a little over half his time at short, splitting the rest between second and third.
