The Pittsburgh Pirates released Trey Cabbage as he looks for a potential fit overseas. Cabbage was acquired through waivers earlier this offseason and looked like he was set to compete for playing time at first base until the Spencer Horwitz trade.
He’s hit .209/.245/.331 with two home runs across 147 plate appearances in the majors the last two years. During the 2023 season, Cabbage had 30 home runs and 32 stolen bases in Triple-A.
In the latest podcast episode, we discuss the Pirates’ addition of Enmanuel Valdez. We also looked at the outlook of the second base position and how the addition of Valdez changes things, if at all.
Is Nick Gonzales penciled in as the Opening Day starter? Who could seriously compete for playing time there going into the 2025 season if not him?
